Seymour “Zoom” Fleisher graduated from NCE with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1951
He earned his nickname “Zoom” for his speed on the court as a captain of the NCE basketball team from 1948-1951
For more than 60 years after his graduation, Zoom Fleisher stayed close to this alma mater and its athletics program, lending broad-based support
A staunch advocate for athletics, Zoom was a driving force behind NJIT’s elevation to Division I status in 2006.
In 2006, he was named first recipient of the Herb M. Iris Award, which honors exemplary leadership and support in the advancement of athletics at NJIT
On February 17, 1999, NJIT's then indoor athletics and recreation facility, enhanced with additional office and recreation space, was re-dedicated as the “Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center”.
Currently, NJIT’s Wellness and Events Center (WEC) continues to carry the name “Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center”
