NEWARK, N.J. — The undefeated NJIT men's lacrosse team will look to move to 7-0 on Saturday afternoon when the Highlanders host the Lindenwood Lions at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT
NJIT improved to 6-0 on March 2 after defeating Wagner, 15-5, in a rain-soaked affair on Staten Island.
The Highlanders were led by Garrett Muscatella's career-high-tying six-point showing (4 G, 2 A). Owen Corry produced three points (2 G, 1 A) while six other Highlanders netted two points (two goals from Jack Bowie, Arthur Miller, and Jesse Roth; one goal and one assist from Gabe Thompson; and two assists from Ryan Sininsky and Beck Gozdenovich) and four others logged one points (goals from Logan Hone and Adyn Cover and assists from Nate Paulo and Benjamin Roberts).
Billy Kroeger was 12-22 at the faceoff X and added a game-high seven ground balls. Teddy Grimley and reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week Hank Bethel posted a team-high three caused turnovers each, nearly accounting for half of NJIT's 14 CTOs.
Liam Brown made 13 saves in the winning effort and has now recorded double digit saves in his last 19 games dating back to last season.
TEWAARATON AWARD WATCH LIST
On March 7, graduate defender Hank Bethel became the first-ever Highlander named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List after Bethel was named as a First Round addition. The complete list includes the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlights the early contenders for this year's Tewaaraton Award. The initial list was published by the organization on February 14. The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are comprised of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
ON THE (NATIONAL) RADAR
NJIT has received votes in the Inside Lacrosse Media and USILA/Blatant Lacrosse Coaches polls the last two weeks (Mar. 4, Feb. 26), marking the first times in program history that the Highlanders were on the periphery of the nation's Top 20. The Highlanders are the only America East team represented in the two polls.
ONE OF THE BEST
As of March 8, NJIT is - among Division I programs - one of five undefeated teams; the first to reach 6-0 this year; and the holders of the nation's longest win streak at seven games.

NJIT has already racked up a number of awards, recognizing the efforts of the players in creating this historic start to the year. Since the season opener, NJIT has earned the following accolades:

WIRE-TO-WIRE WINNER
NJIT never trailed against Wagner and the wire-to-wire win was the Highlanders' second straight (Manhattan) after not producing one prior to February 1, 2020 when NJIT never trailed in defeating Hampton 24-7 in its first-ever game at the newly opened Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
SEEING DOUBLE (DIGITS)
The ten-goal win over Wagner (15-5) is NJIT's fourth-ever all-time by double digits and first since the 2020 Hampton win. It also marks the largest lead at any point for the Highlanders this season.
CONFIRMED WINNER
With a win against Lindenwood, NJIT will move to 7-0 and clinch at least a non-losing, .500 overall record for the first time in program history.
STUFFING THE STAT SHEET
Garrett Muscatella's six-point effort against Wagner (4 G, 2 A) matched Ryan Sininsky's output against Monmouth (3 G, 3 A) for the team's season high.
STEADY AS ALWAYS
Liam Brown's play continues to be a constant area of strength for the Highlanders. Brown became the NJIT all-time leader in saves after making 17 against Siena and ending the day with 587, surpassing former Highlander Nick Marzullo's 579 from 2015-18. Brown has also made double digit saves in his last 19 games dating back to last season.
Entering Saturday, Brown has made 634 saves and sits third in Division I among active players in career saves.
FIRST TIME(S) FOR EVERYTHING
Four of NJIT's six wins this year (Manhattan, Mount St. Mary's, Siena, St. John's) have been the first-ever for the program against that opponent. The other two (Monmouth, Wagner) were NJIT's second against those teams.
READY FOR THE MOMENT
Ryan Sininsky has recorded two hat tricks in his two years at NJIT, and both times they were secured with overtime game-winners that set the program's record for wins in a season: at UMass Lowell on April 29, 2023 (third win of 2023) and February 21 against Monmouth (fourth win of 2024).
TWO WAY PLAYER
Hank Bethel's goal against Monmouth - which tied the contest and set the stage for NJIT's OT win - was the second of his career and first since April 17, 2022 in a Bucknell win over Holy Cross.
FIVE ON IT
Prior to 2023, the last time there were two games in a season where a Highlander scored five or more goals was in 2019, when NJIT all-time leading scorer Aaron Forster netted nine goals against Quinnipiac (Mar. 2) and seven at Hampton (Apr. 6). After the Monmouth game,, it has happened three times by three different players - Arthur Miller (at St. John's),
Garrett Muscatella (vs Siena), and
Jack Bowie (vs Monmouth) - with each player resetting their career highs with their performances.
Bowie bested his previous career high of four goals from the Vermont game last year (March 18) and now has scored three or more goals in eight career matches.
Muscatella's five-goal effort against Siena surpassed his previous high of four goals from last season against UAlbany on April 15, 2023. He has increased his career best in single-game goals each year - 2 in 2021, 3 in 2022, 4 in 2023 and now 5 in 2024.
Muscatella also matched Arthur Miller for the team high after Miller's career-high five goal output from the opener at St. John's. Including his three goals against Siena, Miller now has four career games with at least three goals. Miller's five-goal performance was also the first five-goal outing by a Highlander since
Owen Corry's five goal showing at UMass Lowell on March 27, 2021 - and now the Highlanders have two in back-to-back weeks.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT
In just his second game as a Highlander after starting his career at Bellarmine, Jesse Roth (3 G, 2 A vs Siena) recorded his first multi-game game since his penultimate contest at Bellarmine on May 2, 2023 against Mercer (2 G) and his first hat trick game since April 22, 2023 (Bellarmine at Detroit Mercy). Roth followed up that game with another hat trick in the win against Mount St. Mary's, giving him two hat tricks in his first three career NJIT games after netting four across 39 games and four seasons at Bellarmine. Entering Saturday, Roth has produced three multi-goal games.
SHOOTOUTS WELCOME
The 31 combined goals in the Siena game (16-15) are tied for the second-most in an NJIT win. The Highlanders' 26-9 win at Hampton (Apr. 6, 2019) holds the combined (35) and NJIT single game records, while the 24-7 win over Hampton (Feb. 1, 2020) is second with today's combined performance.
EXTRA LAX IS GOOD
After outlasting Monmouth, NJIT is now 3-2 all-time in overtime games all-time.
TURNING THE CORNER
In a sign that the program is finally turning the corner after years of hard work: NJIT is 9-10 in its last 19 games after going 7-97 in the 104 games and eight seasons prior.

2024 SCHEDULE
This season will be made up of a 14-game slate: eight home and six road games; seven non-conference and seven America East league matchups.
NJIT will open play on the road on Saturday, February 3 against St. John's, marking the first time the Highlanders have faced off against a member of the Big East since hosting Georgetown on April 20, 2019.
The 2024 home opener for the Highlanders will come the following week (February 10) against Siena. Another road matchup at Mount St. Mary's on February 17 will precede NJIT's lone two-game week at home - a Wednesday night meeting against Monmouth on February 21 and a Saturday matinee against Manhattan on February 24.
March begins with the first of NJIT's final two non-conference games, a road trip to Staten Island to face Wagner on March 2. The non-conference finale will pit NJIT against Lindenwood on March 9. NJIT won a last second thriller against the Lions in their first-ever meeting last season.
NJIT opens America East play away from Newark with a trip to last year's regular season champion Vermont on March 16. The Highlanders will welcome Binghamton to Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium for the conference home opener the next week (March 23) before another road contest against defending tournament champion Bryant on March 30.
The final two-game homestand for the Highlanders will see them take on Merrimack (April 6) and UAlbany (April 13). NJIT will close out the regular season at UMBC on April 20 and at home against UMass Lowell on April 27.
NJIT will be looking for its first-ever America East tournament berth in 2024. The four-team playoff will take place on the campus of the No. 1 seed on May 2 and May 4.
AE PRESEASON POLL
In this year's America East Preseason Poll, the Highlanders were slated by the league's coaches to finish tied for sixth with Merrimack - an improvement from being chosen last in the 2023 poll. Bryant, last year's tournament champion, was voted as the regular season favorite.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT | NOTES
Lindenwood enters Saturday's matchup with an 0-2 record after losses at Marquette (16-5) and vs LIU (10-7). The Lions and Highlanders faced off for the first time last year in a 14-13 thriller in Newark that saw Keegan Ford score the game-winner at the buzzer.
