NEWARK, N.J. — On the heels of the NJIT men's lacrosse program earning Team Academic honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), a pair of Highlanders - senior
Liam Brown and redshirt junior
Owen Corry - were named USILA Division I Scholar All-Americans by the organization on Wednesday.
Brown, a goalkeeper from Cedar Grove, was named an America East Man of the Year finalist, College Sports Communicators/CSC Academic All-District, and a third-time America East All-Academic team selection this season. He has garnered each of this year's honors while earning a 3.85 GPA and majoring in Biomedical Engineering.
Brown played every minute in goal for the Highlanders, posted a 13.01 GAA and .530 save percentage, and made a career-high and America East-leading 192 saves in 2023. His 14.77 saves per game during the regular season led the conference and all of NCAA Division I while his save percentage fell in the top 20 nationally (16th). Brown reached 500 career saves against Merrimack on April 8 and ended the year with 550 career stops, second all-time at NJIT (Nick Marzullo, 579).
Brown made double-digit stops in every game - including a season-best 20 in the opener at Siena - and the 38 saves he made in the first two games of the year were the second-most of his career (40 in 2020; 19 at Delaware on 2/15/20; 21 vs Lehigh on 2/22/20). He posted four of the top 15 save performances in the conference this year (20 at Siena, 18 vs Mount St. Mary's, Lindenwood, and Bryant) and ended the regular season in the top ten nationally among active leaders with his 550 saves (currently ninth).
Corry, an attacker from Glen Rock, earned Second Team All-America East honors this season. An America East All-Rookie team in 2021, Corry set career highs in goals (22), assists (13), points (35), shots (104), and shots on goal (65) while adding 11 ground balls and four caused turnovers. He finished the regular season ranked in the top 15 in the league in assists per game (1.00. T-11th), points per game (2.69, 15th) and shots per game (8.00, 5th). He ended the year with 3.137 cumulative GPA while majoring in Financial Technology..
Corry scored his 50th career goal at Merrimack on April 8 and would finish the season with a career total of 56 goals, third all-time at NJIT and one shy of second place (57, Ryan Darrow). He also posted half of a 20-game point streak this year that ended against UAlbany and added four games of 3+ goals to his ledger, including a season-high four at Binghamton on March 25.
Corry's all-conference laurel marks the first time in program history an NJIT men's lacrosse player has earned first or second team all-conference honors.
