NJIT Men's Basketball Gameday InformationÂ
BANGOR, Maine--Having seen its longest winning streak in nearly two years end on Saturday at Dartmouth, NJIT visits Maine in a special Martin Luther King, Jr, holiday matinee Monday at 1 pm.
Â
Monday's game will be the second in this season's home-and-home series between the programs, with the Highlanders having won their 2014-15 home opener vs. Maine, 90-86, in Newark on November 17.
Â
The Highlanders lead the series between the schools, 3-2, with the first game having been played in NJIT's first season of Division I competition, 2006-07. Maine won that year in Newark, 68-58, and then pummeled the Highlanders in Orono, Maine, a year later (86-58 on December 1, 2007).
Â
The series was dormant until last season, when the Highlanders and Black Bears squared off twice early in 2013-14. NJIT and the Black Bears played the first men's basketball game in Bangor's new Cross Insurance Center arena and the Highlanders won (88-82 on November 19). Maine came south to Newark and NJIT completed the sweep, 81-72 (December 4). This season's home-opening win gave NJIT the 3-2 lead in the all-time series.
Â
MAINE NOTES (1-16)Coming off a 6-23 season and having made a head coaching change, a rebuilding season appeared likely and it has come to pass for the Black Bears, who have one victory in 17 starts.
Â
Maine lost its first five, including the Game 2 loss at NJIT (90-86). The Black Bears got in the wins column with an 82-81 overtime victory against Wagner at home on Dec. 2, but the ensuing 11 games have all been defeats, most recently 82-39 on Saturday against Stony Brook, which appears to be the best team in Maine's America East Conference this season.
Â
In addition to the head-to-head matchup won by NJIT in November, the teams have several common opponents. They are:
Â
Dartmouth (beat Maine at home, 74-51, Dec. 6; beat NJIT at home, 62-53, Jan. 17);
