Women's Tennis Celebrates Senior Day With 6-1 Win Over Sacred Heart

NEWARK, N.J. — The NJIT women's tennis team closed out its home schedule and celebrated Senior Day with a 6-1 victory over the Sacred Heart Pioneers Friday evening at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.

The win improved the Highlanders to 9-6 on the season, matching the team's total from its last season (9-3 in 2019-20; opted out 2020-21 due to COVID-19) and moved NJIT one game closer to its first 10-win season since 2018-19 (13-9).

NJIT also wrapped the year with a 5-1 home record, its best mark at Naimoli since going undefeated in 2019-20 (6-0).

For the first time this spring, NJIT swept singles with a full lineup after losing the doubles point (won 6-1 vs FDU, but the No. 6 match was won by default).

Graduate Advaita Saravanan, who was honored as the team's lone graduating student-athlete not returning next year, went 1-1 in her final home match, setting the final margin with a straight set win at No. 5 and teaming with Shalom Salvi to nearly break a 1-1 double tie before falling, 7-6.

NEXT UP
NJIT will  play its final two regular season matches on the road before the Southland Conference Tournament, beginning with a matchup at Delaware on April 10 at Noon.
