BINGHAMTON, NY - The NJIT baseball team got a pair of great pitching performances, but struggled offensively as it fell in both games of a doubleheader against host Binghamton on Saturday at Rumbletown Stadium.
BU took game one 1-0, before winning game two 2-0 to earn the sweep and even its record at 7-7 this season. The Highlanders dropped to 7-17 after Saturday's losses.
Game One
Tyler Stafflinger took a no-hitter into the seventh and final inning, but Binghamton got a leadoff double and scored the game's only run on an error in the bottom of the seventh.
Stafflinger was nearly perfect over the first six innings, allowing just two baserunners via a walk and a hit by pitch in the fourth inning. The veteran right-hander struck out six, one off his season-high and was credited with a complete game.
Luke Longo led the NJIT offense with a pair of hits, while
Albert Choi,
Daniel Helfgott, and
Nick Hussey each recorded one.
Game Two
NJIT out-hit the Bearcats 7-6 in game two, but was once again unable to score a run as BU plated runs in third and seventh innings.
Ryan Fischer was the hard luck loser in the second game, scattering five hits and allowing just one run in six innings of work. Fischer was relieved by
Jake Rappaport, who tossed two innings and allowed one unearned run.
Choi, Hussey, and
Kevin Blum each tallied a pair of hits to lead the NJIT offense.
