NEWARK, NJ -- Four members of the NJIT baseball team are named to the 2026 America East Baseball annual award teams, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Graduate student Mark Scamardella was named to the First Team All-America East. The right-handed pitcher from Staten Island, New York dominated the season leading the conference with 65 strikeouts. Scamardella had stellar performances throughout the season including his outing at UAlbany (4/25) where the right-hander went eight scoreless innings allowing just four hits and walking one while striking out seven.
Freshman Rowin O'Connor was named to the America East All-Rookie Team. The third baseman from Seattle, Washington led the team with seven home runs, which also ranks third amongst freshman and tied for eighth overall in the conference. O'Connor was also named Rookie of the Week twice during the regular season.
Freshmen Lorenzo Camilleri was also named to the America East All-Rookie Team. The first baseman from Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey finished the season batting .276 with six home runs, seven doubles and 26 runs batted in. Camilleri was also named Rookie of the Week once during the regular season.
Senior Austin Francis represented the Highlanders on the America East All-Academic Team. The outfielder from Troy, New York posted a 3.83 GPA while majoring in Business, earning recognition for his excellence both academically and athletically. Francis finished the season with 39 walks which ranked third in the conference.
The America East also announced its major award winners, with UMBC's Ehi Okojie earning Player of the Year honors, UAlbany's Dylan Banner named Pitcher of the Year, and Maine's Hunter St. Denis selected as Rookie of the Year. Binghamton's Tim Sinicki and UMBC's Liam Bowen shared Coach of the Year honors.
