Baseball Set to Open 2019 Campaign with Four-Game Series with Eastern Michigan

HOOVER, AL—The NJIT baseball team opens its 2019 campaign when it travels to Hoover, Alabama to play a four-game series against the Eastern Michigan Friday-Sunday, Feb. 15-17, at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex.

The season will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, with doubleheader action following suit on Saturday, February 16 at 12Noon. Game four will see the Eagles and Highlanders battle in a morning matinee when the first pitch is thrown at 9:30 a.m.

All-Time Series
The Highlanders and Eagles have only met once.  The Eagles walked away with an early season game, on its way to an 8-0 victory on February 20, 2016, in a neutral site game in Emerson, GA.

New Leader on the Field
NJIT is under the direction of interim head coach Robbie McClellan, who joined the NJIT coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2011-12, filling that roll for seven seasons until being named to interim head coach to succeed Brian Guiliana as head coach in August 2018.

McClellan is joined by Giuseppe Papaccio a 2013 graduate of Seton Hall University, Papaccio joins the Highlanders after serving two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach under Rob Sheppard at his alma mater and one season at Manhattan College and Anthony Deleo, a 2015 graduate of Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts.

Highlander Schedule
The Highlanders will play its first 22 games away from home – visiting Norfolk State, Morehead State, nearby Seton Hall, LIU Brooklyn, Manhattan, East Tennessee and the newest member to the ASUN Conference, Liberty.

Home Game Series for NJIT
The Highlanders will host four ASUN Conference series at three different locations.  NJIT will host Jacksonville on March 29-31 in Bridgewater Township, NJ at the Somerset Patriots Stadium.

The three-game series against Lipscomb on April 18-20 will be played in Augusta, NJ, at Skyland Minor League Stadium.

NJIT will welcome Kennesaw State on April 26-28 on the campus of Rutgers University Bainton Field in Piscataway, NJ.  

The final series of the 2019 campaign will be played at Skylands Minor League Stadium in Augusta, NJ, against Florida Gulf Coast.

New Faces on the Roster
This season, the Highlanders welcomed a total of 10 new players to campus, adding talent to the NJIT roster. The incoming players are a well-rounded, balanced, group that will look to make an impact on the program moving forward.

2018 Season
Last season, the Highlanders posted 22 wins, defeated two top-25 teams, program's first appearance in the ASUN Conference Tournament and program-best nine ASUN Conference victories.  The Highlanders look to build on their conference success this year, and look to advance to the ASUN Conference tournament for the second straight year.

McClellan helped develop ASUN All-Conference selections, including 2018 honorees: Jesse Uttendorfer, Julio Marcano, Justin Etts, David Marcano and Paul Franzoni.  Rising sophomore Julio Marcano, became the first NJIT athlete to earn Freshman All-American recognition since competing at the Division I level.

Next Up
NJIT will travel to Virginia and visit Norfolk State in a three-game series on February 23-24.
