BURLINGTON, VT – The NJIT men's swimming and diving team opened the 2016-17 season with a 186-105 loss to Binghamton on Saturday, hosted by Vermont.
Leading the Highlanders was
Matheus Monteiro Montarroyos. In his first meet as a Highlander, the junior transfer placed first in two events including a second place finish in the 100-yard free (48.27). Montarroyos competed in the two longest events of the day, swimming the 1000 free in 10:06.32 and the 500 in 4:52.72 both times good for first place.
Freshmen
Haydn Pak posted a first place time of 1:47.53 in the 200-yard free and
Justin Sherrill came in third in the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:03.96 in their first collegiate meet.
Joining Pak and Sherrill in competing in their first collegiate meet were freshmen
Tyler Pollock,
Kevin Roberton, and
Tyler Schaub.
The Highlanders host Saint Peter's and VMI for their home opener on October 15 starting at 1pm at the Fleisher Athletic Center.
