NEWARK, NJ -- The NJIT swim and dive team opened the 2026-27 season with a commanding victory over Iona, 165-127, in a tri-meet at the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center.
Iona's women's team competed against Siena.Â
Pawel Drzymala had a monstrous day for NJIT, winning three individual events. The junior won the 1000-yard freestyle (9:48.93), the 200 butterfly (1:55.20), and the 500 free (4:46.61).Â
Defending America East 200-Yard Breastroke Gold Meadlist Borys Endlé picked up right where he left off, winning both the 100 (57.25) and 200 (2:05.33) breaststrokes.Â
With the meet tied after 8 events, NJIT broke a tie by winning six straight (100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, 500 Free, 100 Butterfly, 200 IM) to pull ahead for good.Â
"I was really proud of how the team came out in the second part of a tied meet and ran off six wins," said head coach
Ron Farina. "The showed a lot of toughness on the second half of the meet to close out the team win."Â
In all three of Dryzmala's wins, he had a fellow Highlander right behind him in second place. Freshman
Justin Jarczynski impressed in his collegiate debut, coming in second behind Drzymala in the 1000 (9:54.94) and 500 free (4:49.32).
Mohamed Walid finished less than a second behind Dryzmala in the 200 butterfly (1:55.88).Â
Walid would later claim a victory in the 100 butterfly (50.68).Â
Luca Angelini took home the 100 free (46.80). Drew Cellar won the 200 backstroke (1:52:65). And
Edward Ormsby came up victorious in the 200 Intramedley (1:55:07), while Luca Angelini finished less than a second behind him (1:55:93) to place second in the event. Angelini also finished in second place in the 50 yard free.Â

NJITÂ prepares for the NJIT Invitational, which it will host next Friday-Saturday at the Bloom Wellness and Events Center. The Highlanders compete at 5pm on Friday and 10am and 1pm on Saturday.Â
