NEWARK, NJ—The Highlander men have their eyes on their second five-game winning streak of the season when they host Fisher late Saturday afternoon at 4 pm on Alumni Day in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.

The NJIT-Fisher game is part of a busy day of basketball that begins with the NJIT women's team hosting College of St. Joseph from Vermont in a 2 pm game. The men's game, scheduled for a 4 pm start will go on Fleisher Family Court following the women's game. And following the NJIT-Fisher men's game comes the Highlanders' annual men's basketball Alumni Game.

Fisher competes as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and comes to town for the third consecutive season, having lost to NJIT in each of the last two years.

The NAIA, founded in 1940, took on its current name in 1952, when it expanded its championship sports offerings beyond basketball. At one time, NJIT and its forerunner institution, Newark College of Engineering, belonged to the NAIA and the men's soccer Highlanders of NCE were NAIA national champions in 1960.

The creation of NCAA Division III led many Eastern schools, including NJIT in 1974, to migrate to the NCAA. Other Eastern schools, including all the remaining New Jersey-based NAIA schools moved to the NCAA, some to Division II, over the next few decades.

Fisher, located on Beacon Street in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, is one of the few remaining NAIA members in the Northeastern part of the country and is the NAIA's last member in the New England region.

Fisher has played at NJIT each of the last two seasons, losing 108-69 in 2013 and 99-67 last season,

This season, Fisher, which  began men's basketball in 2001-02 is having one of its best seasons ever, going 18-6 against a mix of other NAIA programs, teams from the small-college United States Collegiate Athletic Association (including upcoming NJIT foe Maine-Fort Kent), and NCAA Division III programs.

Fisher, which had won seven of eight, lost its most recent game on February 4. The Falcons have not suffered consecutive losses through their first 24 games.

David Lindberg is the head coach of the Falcons, as he aims to bring Fisher back to the 20-win plateau for the third time under his leadership. His 2008-09 team won 22 games and the 2009-10 Falcons won 25 games, including an NAIA best-in-the-nation 20-game winning streak. This year's team has 18 wins with at least four games remaining, including the visit to NJIT.

Junior wing player Tyler Shular, Fisher's 2014-15 top scorer (15 ppg), has reached double-figures each time he faced NJIT. As a freshman, he scored a team-leading 22 points, shooting 5-for-6 on 3-pointers. Last season, he scored 10 points and grabbed a team-leading 7 rebounds. Shular also scored 20 last season vs. NCAA Division I Maine. Junior guard Kyle Holmes was Fisher's top scorer vs. NJIT last season with 14 points in 17 minutes. He shot 6-for-9 from the field. He averages 9 points per game this season, third on the team.

Fisher team stats and leaders:
Scoring (team 76.5 ppg, +6.6 ppg): Tyler Shular (6-3, Jr; 15 ppg; 53 3-pt FGs); OJ Moore (6-3, Sr; 11.2 ppg)

NJIT has three active players averaging double-figure scoring, with sophomore Damon Lynn leading the way at 16.9 points per game. He has made 93 3-pointers on the season, the most in all of Division I  He also leads the team in assists (88) and steals (40).

Junior Winfield Willis is scoring 11.8 ppg and has made 42 threes, while shooting 81 percent the foul line, where he is 58-of-72.
