After taking some time off to celebrate Thanksgiving, NJIT will be back in against another small college program, College of St. Joseph (Vermont) on Saturday at 2 pm in the Fleisher Athletic Center.

LAST TIME OUT
The NJIT women's basketball team picked up its first victory of the young season, defeating St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) 78-41 Tuesday night in the Fleisher Athletic Center.

The 1-3 Highlanders had 11 different players score in the game, led by 16 points from junior center Leah Horton, who also grabbed 7 rebounds and made a career-high 4 steals. Horton was followed on the NJIT scoring list by junior Camerin Spahn (11 points) and sophomore Maria Ruban (10 points).

Spahn also led NJIT with 9 rebounds and her 4 assists also topped the Highlanders. Spahn had 3 assists and 3 steals, while junior Ruta Vetra had 7 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocked shots in 20 minutes of work off the Highlanders bench.

Record Book
Tuesday's 16 steals by NJIT were the most in a game for the Highlanders since they posted 16 twice in November 2012 against two other Division III teams, Rutgers Newark and Centenary (NJ)

Lanpher vs. Alma Mater CSJ
College of St. Joseph is the alma mater (bachelor's and mater's degrees) of NJIT head coach Steve Lanpher, who scored more than 1,000 points in his men's basketball playing career at the Rutland, VT-based college.  After coaching three years at the high school level, Lanpher returned back to College of St. Joseph as women's basketball coach in 1993-94, before serving in the United States Army as a Ranger in the First Ranger Battalion in Savannah, GA.

NJIT will return to action on Tuesday, December 2, when the Highlanders visit Wagner at 5pm.  The Highlanders defeating Wagner, 60-54, in Newark on December 2, 2014.

ABOUT CSJ
The College of St. Joseph's, a small private school located in Rutland, Vermont, is a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II school which plays within the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC).  The Fighting Saints were previously a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and member of the Sunrise Conference (2002-2011).

LOOKING AT CSJ
The Lady Saints, who are averaging 99.5 point per game, enter Saturday's game with a 2-0 overall mark.  St. Joseph's scored 100+ points in the season opener against Vermont Tech and followed up with a 91-27 win at SUNY Delhi.

The Lady Saints have three players averaging 21 points of more paced by senior guard Chontayvia Kennedy, who is averaging 31.0 ppg while shooting 78 percent from the field. 

Sophomore point guard Jazsala Laracuente is averaging 27.0 ppg and 7.0 assists per game.  Senior guard guard Arreonte Anderson ranks third on the team at 21.5 ppg while averaging 8.5 rpg.
