NEWARK, NJ–Recent NJIT women's basketball graduate Alejandra Zuniga has signed her first professional basketball contract with Unicaja Mijas of Spain, the organization announced.

Zuniga becomes the latest Highlander to make the transition to the professional ranks following one of the most accomplished careers in NJIT women's basketball history.

"I am excited to see Ale chase down a dream," said head coach Mike Lane. "She wanted a professional playing career and she worked hard to attain this goal. She has been training for this opportunity since our season ended in March and it is so rewarding for her, her family and our program to see her make this dream a reality. We can't wait to see her on the court again! Vamos!!!"

She concludes her collegiate career as NJIT's all-time leading scorer with 1,741 career points, solidifying her place among the greatest players in program history. 

A four-time All-America East selection, Zuniga earned First Team honors in 2025 and 2026 after being named to the Second Team in 2024 and Third Team in 2023. As a freshman, she captured America East Rookie of the Year honors while earning a spot on the conference's All-Rookie Team.

During her senior campaign in 2025-26, Zuniga added to her impressive list of accolades both on and off the court. She earned CSC Academic All-District honors for the third consecutive season, was named to the America East All-Academic Team and the Division I-AAA Women's Scholar-Athlete Team, and was selected as a finalist for the 2026 Lilly Women's College All-Star Game. She also received NJIT's Female Athlete of the Year award.

Zuniga averaged 17.8 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game during her final season, finishing third in the America East in both scoring and assists while ranking among the conference leaders in minutes played and free throw percentage. She recorded 20 double-digit scoring performances, including nine 20-point games, and earned America East Player of the Week honors.

One of the defining performances of her career came on January 1, 2026, when she scored a program-record 39 points at UMBC. She also concluded her career ranked second in NJIT's Division I era with 338 career assists, highlighting her ability to impact the game as both an elite scorer and playmaker.

A three-time CSC Academic All-District selection (2024-26) and the 2025 America East Preseason All-Conference selection, Zuniga consistently combined excellence on the court with success in the classroom throughout her collegiate career.

Her record-breaking career, highlighted by individual honors, academic achievements, and sustained excellence in the America East Conference, has paved the way for the next chapter as she begins her professional career with Unicaja Mijas.
