DOVER, DE--NJIT takes on first-time foe Delaware State in a game scheduled for 7:30 pm Monday night. The game concludes a stretch that began on December 23 for the Highlanders, who have played on the road eight times in the nine games that began with a trip to St. Francis Brooklyn two days before Christmas.

After Monday, five of the seven remaining games on the schedule will be played at NJIT.

Monday's matchup with Delaware State is the second half of a doubleheader, with the DSU women hosting local NCAA Division III outfit Wesley in a 5:30 pm game.

The Highlanders have lost their last three, dropping decisions at NC Central and North Carolina A&T last week in North Carolina and then falling at Penn in Philadelphia on Saturday night. Instead of returning home to Newark, NJ, the Highlanders continued on from Philadelphia to Dover, arriving just past midnight early Sunday morning.

NJIT and Delaware State have three opponents in common so far. A week after NJIT lost at St. Francis Brooklyn (77-65), the Hornets hosted the Terriers and lost (60-57).

And this month, the Highlanders and Hornets made similar swings through North Carolina. The Highlanders lost at North Carolina Central (71-55) on January 16 and then at North Carolina A&T (88-82) two days later.

Delaware State is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference along with the two North Carolina schools. The Hornets lost at NCCU on January 18 (62-52) and at A&T two days later (66-55).

While NJIT comes into Monday's matchup trying to halt a three-game losing streak, Delaware State is aiming to end a four-game slide. Three of DSU's overall four wins have come at home.

Three players average double-figure scoring for veteran coach Greg Jackson (14th year at DSU), led by 6-foot-5 senior Casey Walker (12.5 ppg). Tyshawn Bell, a 6-foot-7 junior, adds 11.3 ppg, while big (6-10, 240) Kendall Gray is a force in the middle. Gray, a junior, averages 11.1 points, a team-leading 7 rebounds, and has 51 of his team's 64 blocked shots, including a program record-tying 8 rejections at A&T. Coach Jackson's next win will be his 201st for DSU, tying the late Bennie George, who guided the Hornets from 1949 to 1971, atop the DSU list.

Matt Provence, voice of the Highlanders, will provide live play-by-play audio of the game here on www.NJITHighlanders.com with coverage beginning at least 15 minutes before the contest Monday night.

NJIT's top scorer is freshman Damon Lynn (17.6 ppg), who has connected on 82 3-point baskets through 19 games in his first college season. On the inside, sophomore Terrence Smith averages 12 points while making 57 percent of his shots from the floor and 81 percent at the foul line. He is NJIT's top rebounder (6.1 rpg).

Team assists leader Ky Howard (74) averages 9.5 points and Winfield Willis chips in 9 ppg.
