EASTON, PA—Lafayette scored once in each half to secure a 2-0 women's soccer win over visiting NJIT Friday night on Lafayette's Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
The win was the second 2-0 win in a row for the Leopards, who defeated Saint Peter's by the same score last Sunday afternoon.
Lafayette's Mackenzie Moore and Janelle Pierson each scored a goal and they each assisted on the other's goal. Moore is a sophomore midfielder and Pierson is a freshman midfielder.
Moore put Lafayette in control at 1:24 assisted by Pierson. Moore's tally came on a 20-yard shot into the upper left corner.
The 1-0 score held for the rest of the first half and then for more than 30 minutes into the second half, but Pierson added an insurance tally after a corner kick at 76:26, assisted by Moore and senior forward Jenny Polak.
Polak took the corner kick and sent the ball to Moore, who served the ball into scoring position, where Pierson knocked the loose ball home.
Highlander goalkeeper Sadie Mele made 10 saves, while her Lafayette counterpart, Brittany Futternecht, notched the shutout without making a save.
The total shots were 17-4 in favor of the Leopards and the shots on goal were 12-0. Lafayette doubled up the Highlanders on corner kicks, 12-6.
NJIT got two shots from Jennifer Kalczewski and one apiece from Erika Taugher and Mary Munoz.
NJIT, which is nearing the end of a stretch in the schedule that will see it play six consecutive road contests, will visit Iona for a matchup at noon on Sunday.
