NJIT Falls to UMass Lowell in Season Finale, 2-0

NEWARK, NJ — NJIT put on constant pressure offensively for the duration of the afternoon, but UMass Lowell was able to find the back of the net twice as the Highlanders fell in the season finale, 2-0, Sunday at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

Despite NJIT out-shooting UMass Lowell, 22-15, the Riverhawks owned the advantage in shots on goal (8-4) and converted two of those in the second half to come away with the victory.

Elisa Freeman (60') and Luka Marceau (76') scored for UMass Lowell, whose season was on the line Sunday. The Riverhawks are currently on the outside looking in with the America East Playoffs looming next week. The team would have been eliminated with a loss Sunday, but can now clinch a spot with a win and some help next Sunday.

Rachel Welch saved all 4 NJIT shots on target to post the clean sheet for UMass Lowell. Kaele Smith made 6 saves for the Highlanders.

Up top for NJIT, Kirra Hyder took a game-high 6 shots, while Paige Eckert and Elyse Simpson each had a pair of shots on goal to lead the Highlanders' attack. NJIT exploded for 18 shots in the 2nd Half, but unfortunately could not find the finishing touch.

NJIT also controlled the advantage in corner kicks, 6-3.
