NEWARK, NJ -- Kaele Smith recorded the first 90-minute shutout of her collegiate career Sunday afternoon, and on Monday morning, she was named both America East Conference Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week.
It is the first time this season that an NJIT women's soccer player has won two AEast weekly accolades.
Smith saved all eight shots on target faced to shutdown a strong Vermont attack, keeping the Catamounts off the board which allowed NJIT to come away from the match with a point in the standings as a result of the 0-0 draw. The eight saves were also a career-high for Smith.
A second-year student-athlete from Bradenton, Florida, Smith made her collegiate debut in August and has made four starts with ten appearances for the Highlanders this season. Following play Sunday, she has 41 saves to her ledger.
