PHILADELPHIA—La Salle scored in the fourth minute and added two goals by Melanie Gamble en route to a 3-0 women's soccer win over visiting NJIT Friday night at McCarthy Stadium on the La Salle campus.
La Salle, now 4-2-1, with both losses coming by 3-2 scores on the road against nationally-ranked teams, scored quickly against the Highlanders, as the Explorers' top season goal scorer and season assists leader connected at 3:41.
Alex Conley dribbled up the left side of the field and registered her team-leading third assist of the season when she crossed it to Dana O'Brien for the tally. It was the fifth goal of the season for O'Brien.
The home team picked up its second goal late in the 33rd minute, when O'Brien assisted on the first of two goals on the night for Gamble, who scored from in front of the net.
Gamble closed things out in the 63rd minute, heading the ball into the net off of a cross from Ally Kenney. Gamble now has four goals on the season.
NJIT's shots leader was sophomore Christi Taylor, who took two—both on goal.
La Salle goalkeeper Amy Grant made three saves in posting the shutout. Sadie Mele made six saves in goal for the Highlanders.
