NEWARK, NJ: - Visiting Binghamton scored once in each half, defeating New Jersey Institute of Technology, 2-0, Sunday night in women's soccer action.

Binghamton, now 2-1 overall, connected with one goal from inside the box and the second from the top of the box.

The first goal came from Taylor Kucharski and Amanda Casares to freshman AnnMarie Rizzi at 3:15 and the second from senior Charlotte Foster with 15 minutes left in the contest. Classmate Kim Thomas picked up an assist on the Foster tally.

The Bearcats' first goal was built on a nice pass from the left side of the field by Kucharski, who fed Rizzi inside the box.

Both teams did a good job of protecting their defensive third of the field in the second half, especially in the first 25 minutes.

Binghamton added its insurance goal with 15 minutes left, as Thomas played a long ball to the top of the box, where Foster finished with a shot that lifted over NJIT's goalkeeper.

NJIT came close to scoring in the first half, with 5:40 on the clock, when sophomore Kori Washington took a shot from in front of the goal but the shot sailed high.

Highlander goalkeeper Sadie Mele finished the night with seven saves in front of the net. For Binghamton, Jen McEachron made two saves recording the shutout.

The Highlanders return to action on Friday, September 5 at 7pm when they host Canisius on Lubetkin Field.
