Box Score ALBANY, NY -- UAlbany came out of the gate hot on the attack, put in a pair of goals in the first half, and held on to hand NJIT its first America East Conference loss of the season, 2-0, Sunday afternoon. 

Playing through the rain in the Capital District of New York State, UAlbany fired off 15 shots (8 on goal) with 7 corners in the opening 45 minutes. The Great Danes opened the scoring with an NJIT own goal in the 21st on a strike off the foot from Lauren Villasin, and Sydney Kofton extended the lead in the 37th. Keeper Claudia Volino made 3 saves to hold the Highlanders off the scoreboard. 

NJIT moves to 4-5-1 (1-1-0) on the season, while UAlbany improves to 3-5-1 (1-1-0). 

In net for NJIT, Kaele Smith faced UAlbany's game-opening attack and made six saves to limit the damage to keep NJIT in the game. Smith had a highlight-reel double-save sequence on a corner in the first minute of the game and made a pair of athletic saves later on in the half. Penelope Krieger took over for the final 45 and recorded 5 saves to keep the Great Danes off the scoreboard. 

Kirra Hyder and Paige Eckert each had a pair of shots with one on goal to lead NJIT's attack. Gibson Graham added a shot on the mark for the Highlanders.

NJIT heads home to Newark for a quick turnaround this week, hosting UMBC on Thursday night at 7pm at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
