Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

NJIT Falls to Bryant, 1-0, Sunday in Tightly-Contested Match

SMITHFIELD, R.I. — In a tightly-matched game in nearly every facet, Bryant managed to find the back of the net for the difference-maker as NJIT fell, 1-0, Sunday afternoon.

Each team managed 5 shots on goal apiece, NJIT controlled the advantage on corners, 6-5, and drew half as many fouls (5) as Bryant (10).

However, Samantha Zaslaw's unassisted goal in the 21st minute was all that Bryant would need to hold on.

NJIT's record now stands at 4-7-1 (1-3-0) while Bryant improves to 4-5-2 (2-1-0).

Penelope Krieger made 4 saves in goal while playing all 90 minutes to keep NJIT right in the game. Bryant's Shannon Mejia made 5 saves to record the shutout.

NJIT created momentum in its offensive end, mainly through Paige Eckert, who took 5 shots — 3 on goal, a game-high — while playing a career-high 85 minutes.

Eckert entered the afternoon 8th-overall in shots on goal in the America East Conference. Now with 13, the freshman has a solid chance to find herself within the Top-5 in the category by day's end, as 13 was good for 3rd place as of the beginning of play Sunday. She also overtakes the NJIT team lead.

Fellow freshman Taylor Stuart, who also registered a shot on target, entered play Sunday in 5th place in the conference for the category. She now has 12.
