JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's got on the scoreboard in the second minute of the game and then held on the rest of the way for a 1-0 win over visiting New Jersey Institute of Technology in women's soccer Friday afternoon at Jaroschak Field.
The Peahens (1-1) got the only goal of the game at 1:23, as freshman midfielder Courtney Sundstrom finished a shot that hit the upper left corner of the net.
The goal was Sundstrom's first collegiate goal of her career.
Peahen goalkeeper Leigha Ashmen took the win, her first shutout of the year, as she combined for three saves. NJIT's sophomore goalkeeper Sadie Mele, who was coming off a career-high 14 saves against Army on Tuesday night -- registered 10 saves.
Saint Peter's had a 19-4 advantage in shots while the Highlanders edged in corner kicks, 4-3.
Sophomore Highlander Kori Washington recorded a team-leading three shots (all three on goal) while C. Pasiciel-Chalmers, appearing in her second game as a Highlander, took one shot.
NJIT returns to action Sunday night when they host Binghamton at Lubetkin Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.
