NJIT Heads North for Two-Game Road Trip, Facing UAlbany on Thursday

​NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT women's basketball team will head north for a two-game road trip, first facing UAlbany on Thursday.

All-Time Series
UAlbany leads the all-time series, 13-1.  The Highlanders lone win over the Great Danes dates back to 2008 the first meeting between the two schools.

16 Wins - Matches Highest Win Total in the NJIT DI Era
NJIT improved to 16-10 overall,  matching the highest win total of the Division I era and moved above .500 with a 7-6 America East record, in the Highlanders 63-42 home victory over Maine.

Last Time Out
Three Highlanders scored in double-figures led by sophomore Olivia Kulyk as the Highlanders dominated visiting Maine, 63-42, in America East women's basketball action at the Joel & Diane Bloom Wellness & Events Center.

NJIT (16-10, 7-6 America East) split the regular season series with Maine and matched the wins total in the NJIT Division I era.  

Maine led a 12-9 lead after the first 10 minutes but the Highlanders began to build a lead in the second quarter, taking a five–point lead at the half, 27-22.  

NJIT's lead extended through a strong third quarter surge as the Highlanders outscored Maine, 21-11, to take firm control of the game, 48-33.

The Highlanders scored 36 second-half points and held Maine to only 20 points in the home victory.

Kulyk connected on three triples and grabbed nine rebounds followed by Ava Locklear combined for a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds while Marissa Gingrich contributed 10 points, while Allison Cannon chipped in eight points and dished five assists.

Highlander Hits
–The Highlanders 16 wins have come against Maine, Bryant, UMass Lowell (2x), New Hampshire (2x), UMBC, Delaware State, Lafayette, Sacred Heart, Fordham, St. Thomas, and home wins against Wagner, Saint Peter's Manhattan, and Drexel.
–The 16 overall wins marks the fifth consecutive season with double-digit wins.
–The 16 wins match the highest win totals in the NJIT Division I era.
–The 16-15 overall record in 2012-13 was the first winning record and highest wins total in the Division I era (began 2006-07). Only the 2004-05 team (18 wins) and the 2005-06 team (17 wins in the program's final Division II season) have won more.
–NJIT is 7-6 in the America East and sits in sixth place.
–The nine non-conference wins are the most in the NJIT DI era.
–NJIT started out the season 10-4, which marks the best start in the NJIT Division I era and best start since the 2005-06 season.
–In the last two seasons, NJIT has won the America East Conference opener.
–Senior Alejandra Zuniga made history becoming NJIT's all-time leading scorer in women's basketball history in the Highlanders 78-65 road victory over Bryant in America East Conference women's basketball action inside Chase Athletic Center.  Zuniga, who entered the game with 1,489 points, scored her milestone points in the third quarter at the 4:07 on a layup to become NJIT's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Jessica Gerald (1,504 career points; 2007-11).  She finished with a game-high 27 points and eight rebounds.
– Zuniga tallied a program-record 39 points at UMBC on January 1, 2026 for the Highlanders first conference win of the 2026 season.
–Zuniga tallied her 300th career assist vs. UAlbany on January 29 after dishing out five assists.
–Zuniga ranks second in the America East Conference in scoring (17.8ppg), t-third in assists (4.0), and third in minutes (33.7).
–Sophomore Allison Cannon registered a triple-double (14pts, 11ast, 10reb) against Lafayette on November 30, which marked the first triple double in NJIT Division I era and the third triple double all-time.
–Sophomore Olivia Kulyk leads the America East Conference in overall three-point field goals made (63) and tops the conference in three-pointers per game (2.5). She sits fifth in the conference in scoring at (15.5ppg).
–The 48-point win margin of victory over Saint Peter's on November 19 is the most against a Division I opponent since 2012.
–The 82 total points at Fordham on November 7 are the most points scored by the Highlanders this season.
–NJIT has scored 80 or more points in three games this season.
–The Highlanders have had four players score in double-digits in five games this season.
–NJIT started the 2025 season 6-1 for the first time in program history.
--In the last four seasons, NJIT has won the season opener and started 1-0.

Last Time Out vs. UAlbany
Visiting UAlbany had three players in double-digits as the Great Danes defeated NJIT, 71-54, Thursday evening in America East Conference women's basketball action inside the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center. 

The Highlanders were led by a team-best 17 points from Ava Locklear followed by Olivia Kulyk (11) and Madilyn Dogs (10).  Alejandra Zuniga chipped in nine points.

On the glass, Locklear and Dogs grabbed six rebounds each and Zuniga added four.

Scouting UAlbany
The Great Danes enter Thursday's contest with a 13-12 overall record, 3-9 in the America East, most recently defeating Binghamton, 52-49.

Delanie Hill leads the Great Danes at 14.0 points per contest, while Amaya Stewart (11.6rpg) and Martina Borrellas (9.9) pace UAlbany on the glass.

Next Up
NJIT will conclude its road slate on Saturday when the Highlanders visit Vermont at 3pm.
