Oscar Callo von Platen and junior
Nejc Skorjanc have each been named to the Southland Conference All-Academic Second Team, the league announced Monday.
Callo von Platen posted a strong year on the court for the Highlanders, posting a 13-6 singles record on the season. The senior garnered All-Southland Second Team honors for his performance, which also included eight victories in the No. 3 singles flight. He completed his bachelor's degree in computer science this spring with a 3.93 cumulative GPA.
Skorjanc performed well during his junior year in Newark, earning himself 11 wins in singles action. He played primarily out of the No. 2 position in singles, and in doubles he teamed up with
Pablo Perez Ramos to earn All-Southland Second Team honors in No. 1 doubles. Skorjanc is a financial technology major with a 3.39 GPA.
To be eligible for all-academic distinction, an athlete must hold a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average through the semester prior to the sport's championship, completed at least one full academic semester at the nominating school prior to the current season, and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions during the most recently completed season. Student-Athlete of the Year nominees must have held at least a 3.50 GPA and have completed at least one semester of athletic competition at the nominating school, including the current season.
