3/8/2025 4:28:00 PM

Box Score Queens, N.Y. – The NJIT baseball team dropped the middle game of its three-game series at St. John's, 11-3, on Saturday afternoon. Ray Ortiz collected multiple hits while Mason Wolf drove in a pair of runs for the Highlanders.

After the first three innings went quietly for both sides, Wolf helped NJIT get off on the right foot in the fourth. Ortiz led off the inning with a single and would move up to second on a stolen base. After a popout, Wolf grounded a single of his own to center to bring home Ortiz with the game's first run. The Red Storm would respond quickly, tying the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth and tacking on four more in the fifth to take the lead.

NJIT tried chipping away at the deficit in the sixth. Ortiz reached on another leadoff single and would advance into scoring position after Andrew Eppinger reached on an error. With two runners in scoring position, an RBI groundout from Wolf and a sacrifice fly from Michael Doyle scored both runners to cut the deficit in half.

However, NJIT was unable to get the shutdown inning, allowing a run in the bottom of the sixth to fall behind. 6-3. The Red Storm put the game away for good with a five-run rally in the eighth.
