Box Score High Point, N.C. - Cole Campbell went 3-for-3 and reached base in all five plate appearance but the NJIT baseball team fell to High Point on Saturday night, 12-5.
The Highlanders got off to a strong start, plating the first run of the game right away in the top of the first inning. Campbell opened the game with an infield single, and the Highlanders would put runners on first and second after
Ray Ortiz was hit by a pitch. Two batters later,
Andrew Eppinger would lace an RBI single to left field to score Ortiz from second. However, High Point would gain control of the game over the following two frames, scoring six in the first and three more in the second to grow a lead.
NJIT would get a run back in the fifth, as Campbell singled to open the inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly from
Jaden Caballero. The next inning, the Highlanders scored again as Campbell picked up his third hit of the game, bringing home
CJ Wisniewski from second. In the eighth,
Ty Sallie ripped the first home run of the season for NJIT over the wall in right field for the Highlanders' fourth run of the night. The Highlanders would plate one more in the ninth inning, as Wisniewski was plunked by a pitch with the bases loaded to score
Michael Doyle from third.
