NEWARK, N.J. - The NJIT men's lacrosse program has promoted Assistant Coach
Bobby Russo to Defensive Coordinator, head coach
Eric Wolf announced Tuesday.
"I'm super appreciative of Coach Wolf's belief in me and for this opportunity. I'm excited to continue the growth of NJIT Lacrosse," Russo said.
"I'm fired up for Bobby and the team. Having spent the last year with Bobby gave me complete confidence in who he is as a person and coach," Wolf said. "He is extremely hard-working and very consistent and has the respect of everyone in our locker room. We are thrilled to have him as the leader of our defense."
Russo, entering his second season with the Highlanders, helped lead NJIT to its best season in program history in 2024. The team started with a historic 7-0 record and achieved eight wins, the most in school history.
Russo coached
Liam Brown and
Hank Bethel, who were named to the America East Second Team last season. Brown, Bethel,
Owen Corry,
Beck Gozdenovich, and
Teddy Grimley were selected to play in the 2024 USILA Senior All-Star Game.
As a team, NJIT held its opponents to 19.6% on man-up opportunities, the best mark in school history and No. 2 in the nation. The Highlanders recorded 118 caused turnovers and a 59.2% faceoff percentage, both school records. NJIT also picked up 434 ground balls, the second-best in program history.
Off the field, the Highlanders excelled academically with two America East All-Academic Team selections, two USILA Division I Scholar All-Americans, the USILA Team Academic Award, five America East Scholar-Athletes, and 39 America East Academic Honor Roll selections.
