Track and Field Makes Marks Across America East At Princeton and Monmouth Meets

PRINCETON & WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — The NJIT track and field teams close out this weekend with some significant performances at the final day of the Monmouth Spring Opener and the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational

PRINCETON HIGHLIGHTS
  • The top performance across teams and events for the Highlanders came from Maddie Stevens, who won the 400 meters with a school record (55.08, Sydne Nance, 2022) and America East leading time of 54.30.
  • Jacob Leigh also logged an AE leading time by besting his own record in the 200 meters (21.38, 2023) with a finish of 21.36.
  • Hayley Lucido produced the current third-best 800 meter time in the conference with her time of 2:15.47 (2:17.27, Stuti Vyas, 2022).
  • Other top five America East marks from the Princeton meet include Leigh's 100 meter finish (10.62, 4th), Jordan Lindinger-Asamoah's leap in the Triple Jump (14.56m / 47-9.25, 4th), and a pair of relays (Men's 4x100 of JC Baratta, Damon Dukes, Jr., Andre Henry, and Leigh - 41.64, 3rd; Women's 4x400 of Grace Burke, Hayley Lucido, Sanai Jenkins, and Maddie Stevens - 3:50.90, 2nd)
MONMOUTH DAY 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The highest finish by a Highlander at Monmouth on Saturday was Nelagh Matthews, who took third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:06.97.
  • The best effort from the Highlander men came from Khalid Itani, whose 2:00.28 time in the 800 placed him fifth overall in the event.
  • An America East top five mark came from this meet, as Jason Ballen's Javelin toss of 56.68m / 185-11.00 currently ranks fourth in the conference.

NEXT UP
NJIT will take the next week to prepare for the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships, scheduled for April 6, 2024 at Icahn Stadium in New York.
