Baseball Falls in Game Two of Series at Elon

Highlanders and Phoenix to Meet Sunday at 1pm for Rubber Match

Box Score ELON, NC - The NJIT baseball team was defeated 27-8 by host Elon on Saturday in the second contest of a three-game series hosted by the Phoenix this weekend at Latham Park.

NJIT won game one of the series 5-4 in 10 innings on Friday making Sunday's third game the series rubber match.

The Highlanders went ahead 3-0 early with three runs in the top of the first. Kevin Putsky, Cade Ladehoff and Austin Francis 

After Elon tied the game at 3-3, NJIT put up a four spot on the top of the fourth with the big blow being a two-run single off the bat of Luke Longo

It was all Elon from there, however, as the Phoenix scored 24 of the final 25 runs to earn the victory. 

Four different Highlanders - Ray Ortiz, Longo, Ladehoff, and Putsky each had a pair of hits for NJIT in Saturday's loss. Croix Jenkins tossed 1.2 shutout innings out of the bullpen.

Sunday's rubber match is slated to begin at 1pm back at Latham Park.
