Malherbe Earns Silver, Men's Swimming and Diving In Fourth After AEs Day Two

2/15/2024 11:33:00 PM

LEXINGTON, Va. — The second day of the America East Swimming and Diving Championships ended on Thursday evening with the NJIT men's swimming and diving team picking up its first individual medal of the meet and hitting the halfway mark of the Championships in fourth place overall with 154 points.

DAY 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Freshman Francois Malherbe picked up his first career individual America East medal in the 50 Free, earning silver with a time of 19.75 (17 pts) that would have reset the conference, meet and pool records if not for Binghamton's Eli Lanfear and his winning time of 19.68. A welcome consolation for Malherbe is that the time secured NJIT's first-ever NCAA "B" qualifying standard
  • NJIT narrowly missed out on a pair of other podiums as both Laith Sabbah in the 500 Free (4:28.77; 15 pts) and the 200 Free Relay grouping of Tanish Chhabra, Aidan Blackmon, Dylan Ostolaza, and Francois Malherbe (1:20.93; 30 pts) both placed fourth.
