BOSTON -
Miles Coleman, a fifth-year senior on the NJIT men's basketball team, was named America East Player of the Week, the league announced Monday morning.
Coleman scored 22 to points to help lead the Highlanders to a thrilling 91-83 overtime victory at Maine on Sunday and help the squad even its America East record at 1-1 so far this season.
The West Palm Beach, FL, native played a critical role in a late NJIT comeback. The Highlanders trailed 73-67 with 2:30 to play, but Coleman converted a pair of layups and then assisted on the game-tying basket. He then hit another layup to put the Highlanders ahead before a three-pointer from Maine in the final seconds forced overtime.
In overtime, Coleman picked up where he left off, opening the extra period with a deep three-pointer and then was fouled on a three-point attempt where he made 2-of-3 from the line to increase NJIT's lead to four, a lead it wouldn't relinquish
The veteran was 8-for-16 from the field on Sunday and 2-for-4 from deep while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists.
Coleman is the second NJIT men's basketball student-athlete to receive America East Player of the Week honors this season, joining teammate
Kevin Osawe, who was recognized following his 16-point, 13-rebound performance in a home win vs. Niagara in late December.
The Highlanders will look to make it to straight wins on Wednesday when they welcome Binghamton to the Wellness and Events Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
