Box Score BALTIMORE, MD - The NJIT baseball team rallied from a 7-1 deficit to take a late lead on Sunday, but ultimately fell 9-8 to host UMBC in the final contest of a three-game America East series this weekend at Alumni Field.

UMBC led 7-1 after a five-run sixth inning when the Highlanders began their rally. Albert Choi singled to score a pair of runs in the seventh before NJIT scored five times in the eighth to take an 8-7 advantage.

The big blow of the eighth inning came Julio Marcano at the plate and the bases loaded. The graduate student cleared the bases with a double to tie the game and scored on a sacrifice fly from Choi to put NJIT in front.

UMBC tied it up in the home half of the eighth and then got a sacrifice fly in the ninth to win the game and take the series.

Aidan Kidd started on the mound for NJIT and was effective early, facing the minimum 12 hitter through four innings. Kidd finished with six strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.

Julio Marcano led the NJIT offense with a pair of hits and four RBI. His first inning home run was his sixth of the season and 27th of his career which ties teammate Paul Franzoni for the program record. Ray Ortiz and Nick Hussey each also had two hits for the Highlanders.

NJIT will conclude its regular season next weekend when it travels to Long Island for a three-game series at Stony Brook. First pitch of the series opener is slated for 3pm on Thursday.
