Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Downed By No. 14/15 Army West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. — The NJIT men's lacrosse team was dealt a 18-4 defeat against the No. 14/15 Army West Point Black Knights Saturday afternoon at Michie Field.

Gavyn Willson led the way for NJIT (0-4) offensively as the only Highlander to have a multi-point game (1 G, 2 A) while Gage Adams, Owen Corry and Keegan Ford each added scores.

Corry, Collin Fogerty and Brandon Wasitowski each snapped up a pair of ground balls while five Highlanders - Beck Gozdenovich, Lynch Raby, Matthew Bowerman, Josh Failla, and Cole Ward - each forced a turnover.

Billy Kroeger once again led the faceoff group after securing four wins at the X (4-11).

1ST QUARTER
  • After a quick Army goal, Liam Brown settled in and made his next four saves.
  • After Army's second goal (5:48), the Black Knights were called for three penalties in a three minute span - a three-minute illegal equipment penalty, and two 30-second penalties for offsides and interference - but the Highlanders were unable to convert on any of the man-up opportunities.
  • NJIT was able to close the quarter with its first goal, a Gage Adams score from Gavyn Willson with ten seconds to go in the period.
2ND QUARTER
  • Brown matched his first quarter output in the second, stopping five shots to total ten after 30 minutes of action.
3RD QUARTER
  • Brown played another 9:44 and made three more saves to end his day with 13 stops before Yanni Kalas came in in relief and stopped three other shots.
4TH QUARTER
  • NJIT was able to close the game with some offensive rhythm, scoring three of the game's last four goals. Gavyn Wilson (9:35) and Owen Corry (4:58) put up unassisted goals while Willson set up Keegan Ford's first goal of the year (1:50).
  • Freshman Joey Schwarz stood in goal for the final 4:58 and upped his season-high two saves from last week with three today.
