NEWARK, N.J. --- NJIT Women's Soccer (1-0) will look to win back-to-back games to open the season when the Highlanders host the Wagner Seahawks Sunday afternoon at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
Led by freshmen Corbin Reifschneider and Alexis Ocampo, NJIT won its season opener, 3-1, over Drexel on Sunday afternoon. Reifschneider scored a pair of goals in her collegiate debut to log the Highlanders' first multi-goal game since September 5, 2019, while fellow newcomer Ocampo added a goal between Reifschneiders' tallies.

The underclassmen were set up by two of their upperclassmen, as graduate Lizzy Wolfe recorded two assists and senior Christine Conaghy added another.

REIFSCHNEIDER EARNS AE AWARDS
On February 23, Reifschneider's offensive efforts were rewarded by the America East with its Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week awards. The awards are the first America East accolades the Highlanders have received since joining the league in July and are also the first career honors for Reifschneider.

The laurels also mark the first conference weekly awards for an NJIT women's soccer player since former Highlander Jessica Aseng was named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week on September 30. 2019.

A SEASON LIKE NO OTHER
Like many schools across the country, the current COVID-19 public health crisis has pushed NJIT's fall 2020 campaign into the Spring. Please bookmark NJITHighlanders.com to keep up-to-date on any schedule changes that may arise because of the pandemic or weather-related issues.

As for fans this season, due to COVID protocol policy, the NJIT Department of Athletics is prohibiting spectators at our Indoor & Outdoor Athletic Events. The policy will be re-evaluated in March.

NEW HOME FOR THE HIGHLANDERS
One season after christening a new home field as the first NJIT team to play on Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium, the Highlanders will begin this season as members of a new conference home, the America East. NJIT became the league's tenth member on July 1, 2020 after five seasons in the ASUN Conference that included a pair of ASUN Semifinal appearances and one top-two regular season finish (No. 2 seed in 2018).

The Highlanders are scheduled to play their first-ever America East game on Sunday, March 7 at home against Vermont at Noon.

2020 OUTLOOK
NJIT will bring back 20 returners and incorporate five newcomers as the program looks to use momentum from last season's ASUN Semifinal appearance to propel them in their first campaign in the America East.

Fifth-year head coach Ally Nick's squad will be led by lauded defensive stars (All-ASUN Second Team selection Siani Magruder, ASUN All-Freshman and All-Tournament honoree Molly Saylor, ASUN All-Tournament selection Nicole Loehle) and highly capable offensive talent (leading returning goal scorers Lauren Chamberlain, Bailey Chant and Tara Walenczyk).

In its first-ever America East Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Highlanders were picked seventh out of ten teams. Reigning league champion Stony Brook was tabbed as the preseason favorite.

ALL-TIME SERIES
NJIT and Wagner will be meeting for the tenth time in their history and the first time since 2017. The Seahawks hold a 6-3 edge in the all-time series but the Highlanders have won the last two meetings (3-0, Aug. 19, 2016; 2-0, Sept. 15, 2017).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Wagner will be kicking off its season with Sunday's match at NJIT after their first game at Fordham was cancelled. The Seahawks are led by Luisa Barone (2 G, 1 A in 2019), Annie White (2 G), and Erin Kelly (1.65 GAA, 50 saves).

NEXT UP
NJIT will close out its current homestand with its first-ever America East contest on Sunday, March 7 against Vermont. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon.
