Box Score Plymouth Meeting, PA - The NJIT baseball team was defeated 5-1 by host Villanova in non-conference action on Wednesday at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth.
NJIT (6-10) scored the first run of the game in the top of the first as
David Marcano doubled home
Albert Choi, who led off the game with a triple.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Villanova (9-5) scored an unearned run in the first to tie the game and took the lead with another run in the second.
The Wildcats added to their lead with runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to make the final score 5-1.
Marcano recorded three of the Highlanders' six hits on Wednesday, including a pair of doubles.
Grant Vurpillat started on the mound for NJIT and struck out four in five innings of work.
NJIT returns to the field on Friday when it opens a three-game series at George Washington. First pitch is slated for 3pm in Arlington, VA, and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
