NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT baseball team heads south to a familiar place this weekend to take on a familiar opponent in a three-game series. The Highlanders will back travel to the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, NC, and play Bucknell, who they defeated earlier this season in Cary.
SCHEDULE CHANGE
Please note this was originally scheduled to be a four-game series hosted on the campus of Bucknell, but cold temperatures forced the teams to find other options. It will not be a three-game series in North Carolina, where temperatures are predicted to be almost 20 degrees warmer.Â
WEEKEND SLATE
GAME 1: Saturday, 1pm
GAME 2: Saturday, following Game 1
GAME 3: Sunday, 10am
Last Time vs. Bucknell
Nick Hussey's three-run home run in the top of the 10th inning broke a 5-5 tie and lifted the NJIT baseball team to an 8-5 victory over Bucknell in a neutral site contest on Sunday.
The victory was NJIT's second of the young season and earned the squad a split in their four-game, season-opening series at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary. Bucknell (1-3) was the third different team the Highlanders played this weekend as NJITÂ lost to Monmouth in extra innings on Friday and split a doubleheader with Penn State on Saturday.
Previous Game Short Story
The NJITÂ baseball team scored early and often on Sunday en route to a 17-5 victory in the final contest of a three-game series hosted by Longwood this weekend. The teams split the first two games of the series before the Highlanders earned a decisive victory in Sunday's rubber match.
NJIT (4-3) scored four runs in the top of the first to take control and broke the game open with an eight-run sixth, which increased the lead to 14-2 over the Lancers (2-6).
The Highlanders belted out a season-high 19 hits in Sunday's victory and scored at least one run in seven different innings.
