NEWARK, N.J. --- The NJIT Women's Soccer team (0-2-1) will look to earn its first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Highlanders host the Saint Peter's Peacocks at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Despite outshooting their opponents in the second half, an early first half score proved to be the difference in NJIT's 1-0 loss to the La Salle Explorers Thursday evening. NJIT fell behind in the third minute of the game after La Salle (1-1-1) headed home its first shot of the night. Despite being held without a shot in the first half and allowing nine more shots by the Explorers in the first 45 minutes, NJIT kept itself in the game with its trademark defensive energy. NJIT outshot La Salle 8-5 to close the game, including a line drive shot from
Angela Harris in the 51st minute that hit the top crossbar and bounced away from the goal.
Leading the way for NJIT was
Fiona Wright, who played for the first time this season. Wright took three of the Highlanders' eight shots in her first game action of 2019. Harris took a pair of shots and three others logged one shot apiece. Saylor made four saves in her 84:21 of game action and was briefly subbed out for freshman
Cassidy Landis after colliding with a teammate.
SAYLOR EARNS FIRST ASUN HONOR
For her efforts in the first two games of the season, Saylor earned the ASUN Conference's first Defensive Player of the Week award of the season. Saylor ended last weekend with a 0.43 goals against average, a .909 save percentage, one shutout and ten saves in 207:09 of playing time against UMBC at home and Maryland on the road.
ALL-TIME SERIES
NJIT and Saint Peter's have faced off 12 previous times in their history, with the Highlanders holding a 9-2-1 advantage over the Peacocks. NJIT has won the last eight meetings between the two teams, with the last six coming with a 24-0 point differential and the last four coming at home for the Highlanders.
SCOUTING SAINT PETER'S
Saint Peter's enters Saturday's game with a 2-0 record, a record the Peacocks have not reached since 1994. SPU is sporting a +3 goal differential after a pair of home victories over Delaware State (3-1) and Hampton (1-0). The Peacocks are led by Madison Greenberg (2 goals), and Victoria Scarratt (15 saves).
ASUN PRESEASON HONORS
Fiona Wright, the 2018 ASUN Freshman of the Year, First Team All-ASUN selection, and ASUN All-Freshman honoree, was named to this year's Preseason All-Conference team. Wright led NJIT with 11 goals in 2018 and helped lead the Highlanders to a runner-up finish in the ASUN.
NJIT was also voted to finish fifth in the ASUN Preseason Poll.
NEW ERA FOR NJIT ATHLETICS
Women's Soccer's opener against UMBC was the first regular season game played on NJIT's new field, which was completed this summer. It  also marked the first on-campus contest for the Highlanders' three outdoor teams - women's soccer, men's soccer, and men's lacrosse - since November 7, 2015.

The Highlanders will be led by 2018 ASUN Coach of the Year
Ally Nick, ASUN Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection
Fiona Wright (11 goals in 2018), and Second Team All-ASUN honoree
Nicole Loehle (2 goals; started 17 games for ASUN's 4th-ranked defense at 1.17 goals allowed per game).
