PHILADELPHIA --- NJIT Women's Soccer (0-1-1) will finish its first road trip of the season on Thursday evening with a 7 p.m. matchup against La Salle in Philadelphia.
LAST TIME OUT
In its first road game of the season, NJIT pushed the Maryland Terrapins to the brink on their home field before conceding a goal in the 104th minute in a 1-0 double overtime loss Sunday afternoon at Ludwig Field.
Jessica Aseng posted the first multi-shot game of the season for NJIT, taking two of the team's five chances at goal, while
Alexis Magruder's only shot (74') forced Maryland to make its lone save of the contest. In the second start of her career,
Molly Saylor played another 103-plus minutes of action and made seven stops. Saylor's most impressive save came in the 98th minute as she knocked down and corralled a Maryland chance from point-blank range inside the box.
SAYLOR EARNS FIRST ASUN HONOR
For her efforts in the first two games of the season,
Saylor earned the ASUN Conference's first Defensive Player of the Week award of the season. Saylor ended last weekend with a 0.43 goals against average, a .909 save percentage, one shutout and ten saves in 207:09 of playing time against UMBC at home and Maryland on the road.
ALL-TIME SERIES
NJIT and La Salle will be meeting for the third time in their history. The two teams played in Philly twice (2007 and 2008), with the Explorers winning both contests (4-0 and 3-0, respectively).
SCOUTING LA SALLE
Thursday's match will be La Salle's home opener after playing its first two games in Chapel Hill, N.C. at the Carolina Nike Classic. The Explorers were shut out in their season opener against No. 8 Duke (2-0) and played fellow ASUN member North Florida to a 1-1 draw. Maci Bower scored La Salle's lone goal of the season against UNF, with Sarah DeBerardinis and Emily Banashefski logging assists on the score. In goal, Claudia Jenkins has started both contests and played all 200 minutes for the Explorers. She sports a 1.35 GAA, with 11 saves, three goals allowed and a .786 save percentage.
NEW ERA FOR NJIT ATHLETICS
Women's Soccer's opener against UMBC was the first regular season game played on NJIT's new field, which was completed this summer. It also marked the first on-campus contest for the Highlanders' three outdoor teams - women's soccer, men's soccer, and men's lacrosse - since November 7, 2015.

The Highlanders will be led by 2018 ASUN Coach of the Year
Ally Nick, ASUN Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection
Fiona Wright (11 goals in 2018), and Second Team All-ASUN honoree
Nicole Loehle (2 goals; started 17 games for ASUN's 4th-ranked defense at 1.17 goals allowed per game).
NEXT UP
NJIT will play back-to-back home games, beginning with a meeting against Saint Peter's on Saturday, August 31 at 1 p.m.
