COLLEGE PARK, Md. --- NJIT Women's Soccer (0-0-1) hits the road for the first time this season on Sunday as the Highlanders take on the Maryland Terrapins in College Park.

LAST TIME OUT
NJIT opened the 2019 season against another opponent from Maryland, hosting UMBC on Thursday evening to christen its new on-campus field, Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. The Highlanders and Retrievers played to a scoreless tie that ended early due to inclement weather.

Six players registered shots in the game - Lauren Chamberlain, Yasmeen Malik, Christine Conaghy, Siani Magruder, Fiorella Doglio, and Alexis Magruder - while Molly Saylor notched three saves and played all 103:13 of her first collegiate start in goal.

NEW ERA FOR NJIT ATHLETICS
Women's Soccer's opener against UMBC was the first regular season game played on NJIT's new field, which was completed this summer. It  also marked the first on-campus contest for the Highlanders' three outdoor teams - women's soccer, men's soccer, and men's lacrosse - since November 7, 2015.

2019 OUTLOOK
NJIT will have 19 returners and seven newcomers on the roster as the Highlanders look to follow up on a historic 2018 campaign that saw the team set a program record for wins (11) and finish as the regular season runner-up in the ASUN Conference.

The Highlanders will be led by 2018 ASUN Coach of the Year Ally Nick, ASUN Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection Fiona Wright (11 goals in 2018), and Second Team All-ASUN honoree Nicole Loehle (2 goals; started 17 games for ASUN's 4th-ranked defense at 1.17 goals allowed per game).

FIRST MEETING
NJIT and Maryland will be facing each other for the first time ever Sunday.

SCOUTING MARYLAND
Maryland opened the 2019 season with a 2-1 victory over Georgia Southern on Thursday evening. Alyssa Poarch scored the Terrapins' first goal of the year off an assist from Mikayla Dayes and Dayes scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute of the match. The pair combined for half of Maryland's 20 shots and Erin Seppi made one save and allowed one goal in a full 90 minutes of action.

NEXT UP
NJIT will travel to Philadelphia on Thursday, August 29 for a matchup against La Salle. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
