JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The NJIT men's and women's track & field programs open their time at this year's ASUN Conference Outdoor Championships Friday evening at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.
The Highlander men had four athletes score in the first day of action, compiling 12 points to go into Saturday's action in fourth place. The NJIT women will enter Saturday looking for their first points of the meet.Â
SCORING HIGHLIGHTS
- Men's Long Jump: Nasiem Chandler - 7.06m / 23-6.00 (2nd; 8 pts)
- Men's Hammer Throw: Connor Letko - 42.00m / 137-9.00 (5th; 2 pts)
- Men's Pole Vault: Brandon Kong - 4.17m / 13-8.25 (6th; 1 pt)
- Men's Shot Put: Edward Kasmin - 11.61m / 38-1.25 (6th; 1pt)
OTHER NOTES
- Chandler's silver medal effort in the Long Jump reset his own personal best and set a new NJIT school record in the event.Â
- Kayla Breaux (10th; 40.53m / 132-11.00), Shannon Turner (11th; 40.07m / 131-5.00), and Sara Wells (12th; 39.49m / 129-6.00) all produced Women's Hammer Throw results that eclipsed the previous NJIT school record. Breaux now stands alone with the varsity record and Sara Wells holds the top mark for a freshman.
- Pritinder Singh and Connor Penrod displayed great consistency in the Men's Decathlon, with at least one person placing in the top three of each of the first five events, including a win by Singh in the 400 meters (51.44).
The final day of the Outdoor Championships will kick off tomorrow (May 11) beginning at 9 a.m.
