Track and Field Competes at Rutgers Relays and Bison Outdoor Classic

NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the Rutgers Relays and the Bison Outdoor Classic this weekend.

Rutgers Relays
NJIT showcased a strong performance at the Rutgers Relays on Saturday, highlighted by a second-place finish in the women's long jump with Zaidah Lightener's mark of 5.94 meters and Eatoniel Brown's third-place finish in the men's 400 meters with a time of 48.38 seconds.  Brown also took 14th in the 200 meters, clocking 21.84 seconds. 

In the men's 110 hurdles, Jason Alvarez secured third place with a time of 14.54 seconds and placed fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.25 seconds.  His time in the 110 hurdles is a new school record. Jeusten Jourdain finished eighth in the 110 hurdles at 15.20 seconds.

In the women's 400 meters, Hayley Lucido placed seventh with a time of 58.65 and Nelagh Matthews finished eighth in the women's 400 hurdles with a time of 1:05.91.  

The men's 4 x 400 relay team A achieved a second-place finish with a time of 3:20.96. 

In the field events, Caleb Duvelson excelled in the men's shot put, securing third with a mark of 15.73 meters. Duvelson also placed 15th in the discus with a throw of 40.97 meters. 

Matin Mahmoud earned fifth place in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.27 meters, while Gianni Campione finished 12th in the high jump with a height of 1.80 meters. 

Jason Ballen contributed with a fourth-place finish in the men's javelin, marking 59.16 meters. These performances underscored NJIT's depth and competitiveness across various disciplines.

Bison Outdoor Classic
In the men's 1500 meter run, freshman Lasse Bjorn Jensen set a new school record with a time of 3:49.94.

Anthony Dvorsky's time in the men's 5k was a new school record with a time of 14:12.17.  Dvorsky placed seventh out of 98 runners.

Next Up
Looking ahead, NJIT will compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championships on Friday, April 17, in Piscataway, NJ and the Paul Donahue Invitational hosted by Widener in Chester, PA.
