Brown Captures America East Title in 400-Meter Hurdles at 2026 Outdoor Track and Field Championships

LOWELL, MA— Freshman Eatoniel Brown made history for NJIT, becoming the program's first America East Conference champion in the men's 400-meter hurdles at the 2026 America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by University of Massachusetts Lowell on May 9-10.

Brown advanced to the finals on Saturday with a preliminary time of 53.14 before claiming the conference title on Sunday in 51.30.

Senior Jason Ballen paced NJIT in the field events, earning a silver medal in the men's javelin with a throw of 59.76 meters.

Sophomore Zaidah Lightener captured a bronze medal in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.94 meters.

On the track, graduate student Anthony Dvorsky secured a bronze medal in the men's 10,000 meters, finishing in 29:40.63. He also added a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:53.95.

NJIT's women's 4x800-meter relay team of Jenna Keith, Kellyn Coller, Hayley Lucido and Sarah Van Ornum posted a time of 9:08.79.

In the women's triple jump, Maria Owens recorded a fourth-place finish with a leap of 11.99 meters.

Van Ornum advanced to Sunday's women's 1,500-meter final after clocking 4:40.38 in the preliminary round. She later placed fifth overall in 4:30.77.

Freshman Jason Alvarez qualified for the finals in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a preliminary time of 15.13, while Pietro Carpentari advanced to the men's 400-meter final in 48.52.

Freshman Ryan Lang narrowly missed qualifying for the men's 800-meter final, finishing ninth overall in 1:53.23.

In the women's 800 meters, Lucido earned a spot in Sunday's final after posting a preliminary time of 2:14.07. She went on to finish fifth in the event with a time of 2:13.07.

Nelagh Matthews also advanced in the women's 400-meter hurdles, recording a time of 1:04.53.

Carpentari added a fifth-place finish in the men's 400 meters with a time of 48.12, while Alvarez placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles final in 15.23.

In the men's shot put, freshman Caleb Duvelson placed seventh with a throw of 15.89 meters.
