Track and Field Competes at Penn Relays and TCNJ Lions Invitational

PHILADELPHIA —
The NJIT men's and women's outdoor track and field teams split competition this weekend between the historic Penn Relays and the TCNJ Lions Invitational, highlighted by multiple school records and top finishes.

On the track, the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Hayley Lucido, Lucia Julvez, Kierstin Ashby, and Nelagh Matthews earned a third-place finish in 3:55.26, qualifying for Saturday's final.  The relay team finished third in the finals with a time of  3:56.57.

Freshman Eatoniel Brown etched his name into the program record books, breaking one of NJIT's most prestigious marks in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.61. The previous record was held by alumnus John Porteous, a 2014 regional qualifier.

Graduate student Anthony Dvorsky delivered a standout performance in the men's 10,000 meters, placing sixth with a time of 29:27.55 to set a new NJIT school record.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team—Jason Alvarez, Pietro Carpentari, Moustafa Abdelaal, and Brown—placed 15th with a time of 3:14.79.

Freshman Lasse Bjørn Jensen competed in a deep field in the men's 5,000 meters, finishing with a time of 14:35.95.

In field events, senior Jason Ballen recorded a sixth-place finish in the men's javelin with a throw of 59.75 meters, while Zaiadh Lightener placed sixth in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.92 meters.

TCNJ Lions Invitational
At the TCNJ Lions Invitational, Sarah Van Ornum set a new NJIT school record in the women's 1,500 meters, crossing the line in 4:34.49.

In the men's 5,000 meters, Aidan Groff secured a runner-up finish with a time of 15:39.13.

Isabella Patruno added a sixth-place finish in the women's high jump, clearing 1.58 meters.

Next Up
The two teams will be back in action next weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton.
