NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT baseball team has added a three-game series with Big Ten opponent Purdue this weekend at the Big League Camp complex in Marion, North Carolina.

The Highlanders, originally scheduled to play a three-game series at LIU Brooklyn this weekend, were cancelled due to a poor weather forecast for the New York area.

NJIT and Purdue will feature a Saturday doubleheader and a single game Sunday. First pitch is set for 12Noon on both days. Purdue will be the designated home team in all three games.

The weekend forecast for Marion calls for temperatures in the 50s Saturday and the low-70s Sunday.

The game field Purdue and NJIT are scheduled to play on features an artificial turf surface.

The series will mark the first meeting between the two schools in baseball.  The NJIT men's basketball program and Purdue met on November 26, 2016, in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Big League Camp is located at 3645 Yancey Road, a few miles north of Marion on the western shore of Lake James. The region borders the Black Mountain sub-range of the Appalachian Mountains. The elevation of Marion is 1,400 feet. That's on par with State College, Pennsylvania. Purdue and NJIT both played three-game series at Penn State in March of last season.

The Boilermakers', a 38-win 2018 NCAA Regional qualifier, enters the series with NJIT with a 1-9 overall mark.  Purdue opened the 2019 campaign at No. 21 Southern Miss and No. 14 Texas the following weekend, registering its first win of the season, 4-0, on February 23.  Most recently, the Boilermakers are coming off a three-game series against Oral Roberts.

The Highlanders are 5-2-1 this season after posting a 22-25 record in 2018. NJIT opened its season 5-0-1, marking the best start in the Division I era, with wins vs. Eastern Michigan and Norfolk State before dropping both games of a doubleheader at Ohio Valley Conference favorite Morehead State last weekend in Kentucky.
