Gerald Cubero has been selected ASUN Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week the league announced on Monday.
Cubero picks up his first ASUN Player of the Week honor after scoring a pair of goals, leading the Highlanders to a 2-1 ASUN Conference victory at FGCU Saturday evening.
The 5-foot-8 forward, who played last season at nearby Essex County College in Newark and completed his freshman campaign at Rowan College at Burlington County, raised his season total to five goals, netting his first goal of the match in the second minute and the game-winner in the 84th minute to secure the 2-1 road win.
With the win at FGCU, NJIT moved to the top of the ASUN standings with 12 points and controls its own destiny for the ASUN Conference regular season title heading into the final week of league play.
His five goals on the season ranks tied for third in the ASUN with teammate
Thomas Radon.
The final match of the season, Senior Night, will feature the Highlanders hosting Jacksonville on November 2. Kickoff is slated for 7pm.
