Men's Soccer Captures Five Selections to CSC Academic All-District Team

NEWARK, NJ–
Five NJIT men's soccer players were selected  to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday, including Devin Armstrong, Sergio Martinez Cubel, Jack Krongold, Giovanni Massacesi and Alvaro Heredia

Devin Armstrong
Armstrong, a goalkeeper from Palm Harbor, Florida started all 17 matches in goal for the Highlanders. He topped the league in overall saves (71) and his five shutouts ranked tied for third in the America East.

This season, he finished ranked tied for 16th in the nation (as of Nov. 9) in total saves, ranked tied for second in the nation with 12 saves in a single game at then-ranked No. 24 Cornell (Sept. 20) and tied for third in nation with 11 saves against UMass Lowell (Oct. 18).

The 12 saves are the most by a Highlander goalkeeper since Collin Cunning combined for 13 saves at Maryland on October 26, 2005.

Armstrong, a two-timer America East Conference and CSC Academic All-District team selection, was named to the Dean's List twice, will graduate in May with a Law, Technology and Culture degree.

Sergio Martinez Cubel
Martinez Cubel, a midfielder from Sedavi, Spain, played in 13 matches, including 12 starts for the Highlanders. 

For his career, Martinez Cubel played in 61 games, 39 starts, scored seven goals (tied for ninth in NJIT DI era), registered seven assists (ranks ninth in the NJIT DI era) and combined for 21 points.

A two-time America East All-Academic team and CSC All-District team, Martinez Cubel was named to the Dean's List six times, Martinez Cubel will graduate in May with an Industrial Engineering major.

Jack Krongold
A four-year member of the NJIT men's soccer program, Krongold has appeared in 60 career games, including 33 starts and has tallied a pair of assists.

Named to the Dean's List for six semesters, Krongold will graduate in May with a Cyberpsychology degree.

Alvaro Heredia 
Heredia concluded his collegiate career at NJIT after playing one season at Xavier (2022).  For his career, he played in 48 matches, including 39 starts, six goals, five assists and 17 points.  As a sophomore, Heredia was selected to the America East second-team.

Named to the Dean's List for three semesters, Heredia will graduate in May with an Industrial Engineering degree.

Giovanni Massacesi
Massacesi played two seasons in a Highlander uniform, appearing in 27 matches, 25 starts and tallying five assists and five points.Massacesi is pursuing his MBA in Business Administration.
