Men’s Soccer Scores Late in 2-1 Road Loss at No. 7 Bryant Friday Night


SMITHFIELD, RI–The NJIT men's soccer team scored a late goal in the second half but it wasn't enough as No. 7 Bryant held on for a 2-1 victory over visiting NJIT Friday night at Beirne Stadium in America East Conference action.

The Bulldogs improve to 14-1-2 overall, 5-1-0 in the America East while the Highlanders move to 3-9-4 overall, 1-4-1 in the America East.

America East Standings/Scenarios Heading into the Final Regular Season Match
Heading into the final regular season match at home on Tuesday, November 4, NJIT sits in seventh place with four points and a 1-4-1 overall mark in the league.

UMBC, who the Highlanders will host on Tuesday night, picked up a 4-0 win over Binghamton on Friday night, improved to 2-3-1 and sits with seven points.

A win on Tuesday for the Highlanders, will clinch a spot in the 2025 America East Conference Postseason Tournament.

How It Happened

  • Bryant scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute by Paco Fernandez for a 1-0 advantage.

  • The Bulldogs went down a man in the 23rd minute with a red card issued to Tiago Diaz.

  • The home team doubled the score in the 72nd minute on the second goal of the match by Fernandez for a 2-0 lead.

  • With two minutes remaining in the match, NJIT transfer Patrick Kierzkowski blasted a left-footed blast off the post into the goal for a one-goal game and pulled the Highlanders within one, 2-1 in the 88th minute.  Senior Alvaro Heredia was credited with the assist.

  • The Bulldogs held a slight edge in overall shots 7-4 while the Highlanders held a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal.

  • The corner kick advantage was in favor of the Highlanders – 5-to-3.

Noteworthy

  • Kierzkowski, a transfer from Saint Francis U, scored his first goal in a Highlander uniform Friday night in the 88th minute at No. 7 Bryant.

  • Heredia tallied his first assist on the season.

NJIT will conclude the regular season on Tuesday when the Highlanders host UMBC on Senior Night.  Kickoff is slated for 6pm on ESPN+.  Pregame ceremonies will begin around 5:45pm when the Highlanders honor Devin Armstrong, Alvaro Heredia, Jack Krongold, Jordan Canica, Giovanni Massacesi, Kyle Dixon, Sergio Martinez Cubel, Andrea Campoli and Caio Carrara.
