NEWARK, N.J. --- NJIT Women's Soccer (5-3-3, 2-0-1 ASUN) will begin its final road stretch of the regular season this weekend as the Highlanders start the three-game slate with a trip to Florida Gulf Coast.
LAST TIME OUT
NJIT ended last weekend in a three-way tie for second place in the ASUN after a 1-1 draw at home against North Florida.
Christine Conaghy scored her first goal of the season to allow the Highlanders to pick up a point in the standings after trailing in the first half. NJIT, North Florida, and FGCU now sit tied for second place in the ASUN behind first-place Liberty.
SECOND ASUN HONOR FOR HIGHLANDERS
Aseng secured NJIT's second ASUN Defensive Player of the Week award of the season for her play against Stetson and North Alabama. She helped the Highlander defense allow only one goal in their two wins and added her first-ever goal against UNA. The DPOW honor is the fifth all-time for NJIT and follows
Molly Saylor's accolade from the first week of the season.
LOOKING TO REPLICATE SUCCESS
NJIT will be looking to improve on its historic 2018 run through ASUN Conference play. The Highlanders ended conference action last year as the No. 2 team in the league with a 5-2-1 mark and hosted an ASUN Tournament game in its first-ever appearance.
DEFENSE WINS GAMES
The Highlanders currently rank first in the ASUN Conference in goals against average (0.68) and goals allowed (8) while
Molly Saylor is pacing the league in GAA (0.75) and save percentage (.879).
SCOUTING FGCU
FGCU enters Sunday's game on a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1). The Eagles have won their last two, a pair of shutouts over Jacksonville (3-0 on October 6) and Kennesaw State (2-0 on October 10). FGCU is led by Louise Lillback (6 goals, four assists), Evdokia Popadinova (7 G, 1 A), and Melissa Weck (0.88 GAA, .783 save percentage, 36 saves).
ALL-TIME SERIES
NJIT and FGCU have met four times in their history, with the Eagles holding a 3-1 edge in the all-time series. NJIT won their last matchup, a 1-0 home shutout on October 4, 2018.
NEW ERA FOR NJIT ATHLETICS
Women's Soccer's opener against UMBC was the first regular season game played on NJIT's new field, which was completed this summer. It also marked the first on-campus contest for the Highlanders' three outdoor teams - women's soccer, men's soccer, and men's lacrosse - since November 7, 2015.

The Highlanders will be led by 2018 ASUN Coach of the Year
Ally Nick, ASUN Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection
Fiona Wright (11 goals in 2018), and Second Team All-ASUN honoree
Nicole Loehle (2 goals; started 17 games for ASUN's 4th-ranked defense at 1.17 goals allowed per game).
