Fiona Wright tallied her fifth goal of the season, scoring the lone goal for the Highlanders in the second half.
Scouting the Highlanders
After a season-opening loss to defending MAAC Regular season and tournament champions Monmouth, the Highlanders went 5-0-1 over the next six games. NJIT has posted five shutouts on the season.
The 3-2 overtime win over UMBC is the first win in overtime for the Highlanders since 2012 when NJIT defeated South Carolina State on October 20.
Wright leads the team with five goals and 10 points while
Katrina Nguyen-DeMary paces the Highlanders with four assists. Wright, who has scored five goals in eight games, ranks third in the ASUN Conference in goals.
Callaghan's three goals and six points ranks second on the team. Nguyen-DeMary ranks tied for sixth in the league with four assists.
ASUN Conference Preseason Poll
NJIT, which saw the Highlanders set program records in 2017 for wins in a season (9), shutouts (7) and finishing above .500 (9-8 overall), was selected to finish eighth, tallying 20 points.
Scouting the Flames
Liberty, in its first season in the ASUN Conference, will host the first-ever ASUN Conference match on Sunday at 1pm.
The last time Liberty played a home game was August 23 vs. LSU. Liberty ended a seven game road trip, which was the longest road trip in school history.
The Flames enter Sunday's match with a 1-8 overall record, 0-1 in the ASUN. Liberty picked up a 1-0 win over Campbell for the lone win on the season.
Liberty most recently dropped a 2-0 decision at Kennesaw State.
Of the eight other ASUN members, Liberty has only faced FGCU and Stetson and is a combined 1-3-1 against ASUN schools.
The Flames have scored five goals on the season, led by Devon Sipala with two goals while four different players have scored one goal. Gabrielle Farrell paces the team with two assists.
