NEWARK, NJ—NJIT continues its five-game road stretch on Saturday when the Highlanders visit Penn at The Historic Palestra. Tip-off is slated for 2pm on ESPN+.
All-Time Series
Penn claimed the NJIT Christmas Tournament title last December and holds a 3-2 all-time record vs. NJIT. Penn has won the last three meetings, including a 77-38 win last year.

NJIT Outlook
NJIT opened the season at Saint Peter's, dropping a 70-57 decision, despite a career-night for junior
Danielle Tunstall, who combined for a double-double, pouring in 24 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
Guarino matched her career mark in points (24) at Howard last Saturday in a 77-57 loss in Washington, DC. Guarino shot 6-for-13 from the field, 5-for-10 from three-point range and 7-for-7 from the free-throw line in an impressive effort. Guarino last scored 24 points at North Florida on February 17, 2018.
Three Highlanders are averaging double-figures through three games, paced by Guarino's 13.0ppg followed by Tunstall (11.0 ppg) and Stoll (10.3 ppg). Tunstall sits atop the rebounding category, averaging 6.3 rpg.
Head Coach Mike Lane
First-year head coach
Mike Lane comes to NJIT after spending six seasons at Bucknell University as the top assistant coach, where he helped guide the Bison to a program-best 27-6 mark, Patriot League title and conference championship while earning a berth to the NCAA Tournament in 2017.
A Look at the Quakers
The Quakers posted their fifth-straight 20+ win season last year, going 22-9 overall and finishing second in the Ivy League with a conference record of 11-3. After advancing to the Ivy League Tournament Championship for the second-straight season, Penn earned a spot in the postseason for the sixth year in a row, playing in the WNIT. There, the Red and Blue won their fourth postseason game in school history before falling to St. John's in the second round.
Sophomore center Eleah Parker put together a strong season during her freshman campaign, heralded as the unanimous Ivy League Rookie of the Year, as well as the Big 5 Rookie of the Year. The Charlotte, NC native averaged 11.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game, starting all 31 contests last season.
The Quakers opened the season with a 58-51 win over Siena, led by junior Phoebe Sterba with a career-high 16 points on four three-pointers.
Penn was put to the test against No. 1 Norte Dame, paced by senior captain Ashley Russell with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. The game at Norte Dame marked the first time Penn faced the top team in the country.
Head Coach Mike McLaughlin
A three-time Philadelphia Big 5 Coach of the Year, McLaughlin has a career record of 562-170 (.768) and has posted 20 or more wins in 19 of his 23 seasons as a head coach, including six 30-win seasons. The Philadelphia native has won 13 conference titles and is an 18-time Conference Coach of the Year.
McLaughlin has built the Penn women's basketball program into an Ivy League powerhouse. The Quakers have won 20 games in five consecutive seasons, have clinched three Ivy League championships and NCAA Tournament berths in 2014, 2016, and 2017 and won the program's first two Big 5 titles in 2014-15 and 2017-18. Penn has reached the postseason in each of the last six seasons (a school record).
Ivy League Preseason Poll
The Quakers have been selected either first or second in the Ivy League Preseason Poll in six-straight years, and have received first-place votes each of those years, earning two this season.
Penn was selected to finish in second, behind Princeton, who earned 14 first-place votes, sitting atop the poll with 133 points, followed by the Quakers with 107.

The Quakers enter the year ranked 21st in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll. Penn is one of two Ivy League teams represented in the poll (Princeton).

NJIT will conclude its five-game road stretch at Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday, November 20 in Teaneck, NJ. Tipoff is slated for 7pm at the Rothman Center.
2018 NJIT Home Opener
NJIT will open the home portion of its schedule on November 24, hosting the NJIT Thanksgiving Classic. NJIT will host two first-time opponents Western Carolina from the Southern Conference on November 24 and Southeast Missouri State from the Ohio Valley Conference on November 25.
